The Consulate General of Ireland in New York and the Aisling Irish Community Center partnered to bring this beautiful rendition of the Carol of the Bells as a special thank you to the wonderful Irish community in New York.
This year has been a tough year for everyone and community has never been more important. The Irish in New York really showed their spirit, joining together to help each other and support those in need.
The Aisling Irish ballad group was formed in 2019. Fourteen young people, between the ages of 10 and 14, have been learning to sing Irish songs under the guidance of Dawn Doherty from Co. Mayo and Frankie McCormick from Co. Armagh. Several of the group have competed in the all-Ireland Fleadh in recent years, bringing prizes back with them to New York. They featured on the Late Late Toy Show this year. They’ve been keeping everyone’s spirits up throughout 2020 and the community is very proud of them!
The Aisling Irish Community and Cultural Center in Yonkers New York has been supporting the Irish of New York since the early 1990s. It runs a range of programmes and classes for a variety of age groups from music for toddlers to book clubs for seniors and everything in between.
Credits to Chris Meegan, Donna Davis and Frankie McCormick for their work on the video, to Untermyer Gardens and Park in Yonkers for their kind permission to film there, and to all the parents who go that extra mile to keep music in the lives of their families.
