The Goddess Brigit was a pagan deity, and in keeping with deities from many cultures, she was simultaneously a goddess of seemingly opposing things – poetry, healing and childbirth, but also war and destruction. This duality appealed to me, demonstrating the fluid attitude of pagan cultures towards good and evil, life and death. I designed the piece to show both the darkness and the light that was associated with her, before she was sanitised by religious doctrine.
Holly Pereira is an illustrator & muralist based in Dublin, Ireland. Her work is colourful, fun and bold. Her hand-painted murals often take reference from folk art, and she creates bright and exuberant environments in which we are invited to inhabit. Her lively work also celebrates her love of typography and language, eking meaning out of imagery, and imagery out of meaning.
Programme part of Brigit 2022: Dublin City Celebrating Women, a Dublin City Council initiative.
